Hi,

I think this horse might already be dead, but I thought should give it one last
(doubtful) kick.

I think Len White (we must be cousins) hit it perfectly, mentioning the card
explicitly is a mistake. When the first ATM was developed I doubt they started
by assuming a card reader, and we should avoid the natural tendency to jump to
what is familiar....

I don't think it is a horrible crime to mention the card because there is a
pretty good chance a card will be used, and I don't like to get caught up in the
minutia, BUT to be perfectly accurate, I think the card IS mentioning how. The
user identifies himself is more technically correct (IMHO).

Subject: (ROSE) ATM Use Case Model

I have been giving a two hour presentation to introduce RUP to our project
teams. The presentation contains the ATM use-case model that is used in
most of the Rational training. I have been stressing that use cases
describe "what" and not "how". At the last presentation, a lively
discussion about having the bank customer insert his/her ATM card
constituted "how" and not "what". Has anyone encountered this situation and
what was the consensus?
