Hi Arno,
I have taught the Rational Requirements Management with Use Cases and the
OOAD courses. The first is very worthwhile if you are not familiar with
visual modeling - it is geared toward Business Analysts and you might find
it a bit too fundamental. An alternative you could consider is to get
someone (Rational or partner) to come show you how you would model the
requirements for your system. Many of the Rational support teams offer this
concept of a requirements workshop. And depending on the team, your
project, etc., can be more cost effective than the formal course.

I am a big fan of the OOAD training as it offers not only UML but a
well-defined process for getting from requirements to code with a lot of
things you may not have thought of even if you have used UML. I teach it at
Rice University's Continuing Education under Rational's SEED program.

The OOAD has been restructured to accomodate different levels of experience
and expertise and I hear very good things about them but have not tried them
myself. I see they have web versions of some of the courses and that might
be a good one-person-training-with-no-travel-cost option. The Rational
Developer Network, in general, will have examples and guidance which will
help with your training needs. It is no cost if you are a Rational
customer. www.rational.net
Hope this helps,
cve

Subject: (ROSE) study uml ...?

Hi all,

I have a question for you guys about studying software requirements
specifying with UML.
I am interested in studying 'specifying software requirements with uml'
and/or 'analysing/designing software applications'.
I have searched the Rational website and found out that they indeed provide
training.

I have a question about the Rational courses:
- I think I am quite experienced in using UML and Rational Rose. I don't
think I need to know the basics of modelling. Does anyone know if the
courses provided by Rational are useful (and worth the price) if I would
attend such a course? Are only the basic subjects covered or is the subject
quite detailed?

Are there any self-study books or courses that can be used (not necessarily
provided by Rational)

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Regards,
Arno Leenders
