Hi Arno,

I found the OOAD courses run by Rational to be excellent (apart from the
marketing spiels in the middle). A lot depends on the experience of the
lecturer/trainer (i.e. If the trainer has a technical background, then the
course goes into more detail), but the course is structured very well
regardless.

It covers Object Oriented theory (in detail) and the use of UML. The
activities are all relevant and hands on. It doesn't include Rose training
- that's a separate course.

It depends on what you mean by quite experienced. Do you know the meaning
of and definition of "polymorphism" and "generalisation", the UML
representation of these and when to use them? (As an example) - This is the
type of stuff that is covered in the OOAD course. (E.g. Different types of
classes, when to use them, how to model particular scenarios, when you
should use inheritence and when you shouldn't).

The Requirements Management for Use Cases course is very much aimed at
Analysts - it's more about how to facilitate requirements gathering using OO
techniques and methodologies, when to do what (in RUP), problem
identification and structuring use cases. I found that it was more basic
than the OOAD course.

I've also done OOAD subjects at University - when comparing the two,
Rational's is actually taught better.

Regards,
Tara.
