Hmm, interesting. You've installed presumably otherwise the gui wouldn't run up at all. I've just this afternoon upgraded on the laptop to RH9.0 to give it a lash. Actually mainly hoping that the power saving is a bit more subtle (i.e. works) on this laptop - otherwise the fan is on all the time and it's a real noisy PITA. RH9.0 looks pretty anyway.
