potentially closely inter-related.

Not necessarily - in my case, for example, because it could involve
other applications that would not be linked into RG.
There are even researchers who might not want to use C++ :-)

Research into automatic methods of discovering properties, concepts and 
knowledge from data.

It would be better if it were part of a proper scriptable API which
covers the major functionality of notation (and segments) because
that would support inter-related application areas.
