I emailed him off-list with a finding that audio segments seem to bog down 
scrolling, whether previews are visible or not.  I have a huge all MIDI test 
file, and everything seems more or less fine.  Add one fairly big audio 
segment to that, turn previews and labels off, and it still cuts scrolling 
performance sharply.  More audio seems to make it progressively worse, and an 
audio-heavy file (Zynfidel) is just short of impossible to work with.

I'll add another finding.  Deleting the audio tracks from one of these boggy 
files makes an immediate and dramatic positive difference, then undoing the 
deletion makes an immediate negative difference.  I really don't think I'm 
dreaming this at all.
