If you have both the CVS HEAD and "experiments" branches available to you, or can be bothered to get them:
Can you update both and then compare how long each of them takes to start up? The experiments branch had a few changes (a few weeks ago) intended to speed up the startup a bit, but I'd like to gather some data on how far it actually works.
