I never did any real GUI programming at all before Rosegarden. That's the
easy side of it. Don't worry.

That's the understatement of the century.

You lost me when you said the word "equation." I flunked math.

Basically, it sounds plausible, and sounds like a "send us the patch" kind of
feature. If you can pull it off, I'm sure we'll fit it in. Hell, we have
one branch where they're doing some kind of weird quarter-tone pitch tracking
hobbledyjibber that's ten light years over my head. We've got another branch
where a contributor like you're thinking to become is working on some guitar
chord stuff that looks cool. There's room for everybody, and everybody has a
chance of getting their stuff merged into mainstream Rosegarden once it's up
to par. However, we don't have a lot of spare time to devote to helping
people with pet projects like this, so you can expect a minimum of hand
holding along the way.

Get something together, we'll almost certainly throw it into a branch where
you can play with it further, and then worry about merging it later down the
road, when the time comes.

Also, do feel absolutely free to work on more meat and potatoes issues. The
bugs list is fair game. Most of the higher-priority feature requests are
too. Plenty to do, not enough manpower, so join the party. Put future
proposals in patch form, and we'll get along fine. Patches speak so much
more loudly than words.
