Basically, it sounds plausible, and sounds like a "send us the patch"

feature. If you can pull it off, I'm sure we'll fit it in. Hell, we
have
one branch where they're doing some kind of weird quarter-tone pitch
tracking
hobbledyjibber that's ten light years over my head.
Do you mean us? I think you do... :)
We've got another branch
where a contributor like you're thinking to become is working on some
guitar
chord stuff that looks cool. There's room for everybody, and
everybody has a
chance of getting their stuff merged into mainstream Rosegarden once
it's up
to par. However, we don't have a lot of spare time to devote to
helping
people with pet projects like this, so you can expect a minimum of hand
holding along the way.
Get something together, we'll almost certainly throw it into a branch
where
you can play with it further, and then worry about merging it later
down the
road, when the time comes.
One thing I can say is that the core Rosegarden team is the model of
collaboration when it comes to first stumbling around the code. We've
gone pretty quiet on the pitch-tracker front recently, but the 19-ET
(microtonal) stuff is going to have a big outing at the Royal College
of Music, London on 9th Feb., and we'd not have been able to do
anything like this without the Rosegarden team. I show photographs of
them when we present our work. One of the reasons for this pause is
that we're waiting on results from real musicans (and very high quality
ones at that) actually having used it. I know Dougie's already working
on tidying things up for "release".
So i'd encourage anyone to go ahead and collaborate with this project.
There's a crusty old academic movement at large which thinks projects
have to have management committees, bosses, project management, and the
programmers right at the bottom of the heap, so it's particularly
refreshing to work with this bunch, even peripherally.
Happy new year everyone!
