I couldn't see the cause.

If you take the right edge of an audio segment and shrink it from there, 
there are several refreshes caused by mouse movement before you've 
actually moved the mouse enough to reach the next snap position, when 
the segment itself is first resized.  During that time, the printouts 
from drawAreaAudioPreviews show the segment preview being refreshed at 
the original size of the segment, right up to and including the refresh 
that happens when the segment is resized to the next snap position.  
The next refresh after that -- next time the mouse moves -- is at the 
new smaller size, but the big preview remains on the screen.

Haven't got any further, I'm afraid, and I have to go out.
