It is indeed not for the everyday use, but still, I remember having a lot of 
fun using the script language of cakewalk, and there were several scripts 
shipped with the product doing already interesting things, like midi delay 
with feedback and modified pitch.

This is indeed an open question and I certainly do not have the answer, 
recently the same question came up in the muse mailing list. Among others, 
Python was suggested as a good candidate.

The harmonisation plugin would surely be a good case.
