No. There are several ways to make UI look compact, and seeking for clean metaphors for everything is the wrong way. For instance, we could try to investigate use of custom widgets. IIRC, Logic used to have a nice one, easy to use and functional that looked close to a label with numeric value, but worked as spinbox.
