Dear Chris,

Welcome to Rosegarden.

I'm away from the computer with our QT4 port links, so I'll send those tomorrow.

Typically, we ask new contributors to submit a patch first before we give
access to the svn for updates. So if you have a small contribution to trunk or
find something in the port you can take on, then just submit your change to the
list as a diff file.

They (the RG team) let me in, so the bar is pretty low for entry.

I do what I can, and make messes along the way, but nobody seems to be
complaining--directly anyway.

Chris is currently working on a few key features of the port that we are
waiting on. It appears he has been on a role lately. So, hopefully, we will
be close to getting the port to compile. After that, there will be lots of
work to do, for all of us.

The key thing about this group is that, we prefer questions and communication
before action. So as you proceed keep that in mind as you proceed. If its a
no-brainier, then please go ahead and code it. If you are making design
decisions, please discuss it first. That is really about it.

Again, I'll send you some links tomorrow, unless someone gets to it first. We
are happy to have all the help we can get.

As an aside, we are not against KDE, and will use it if necessary. Currently
we still plan on using its i18n() functions, since none of us are certain about
QT's tr() functions--a learning curve issue mostly. We have translations in
many languages and are having a hard time asking everyone to retool and go to
tr(). But, I'm only repeating what I've heard. I have no first hande
knowledge of the ins and outs of i18n() or tr().

The short of it is, we are still married to KDE in that respect, but have
chosen QT for many aspects of the port.

Again, welcome aboard.

Sincerely,
Julie S.
