I like the idea of editing Triggered segments in other editors.
I haven't tried the patch, but I'm curious as to which Device / Instrument is
being assigned to these triggered segments.
In RG a Device / Instrument is assigned based on which Track it is on and if it
is compatible (Audio doesn't play on MIDI, etc).
This ties in directly with the symlink discussion on another thread.
If we created another type of track (A triggered segment track).
Then any track that is placed on it get its Device / Instrument assignment
based on the track settings (typical RG style).
Now that these segments are on a track, that means they are in the composition
directly.
Users can decide where to place these things. They can also use the recording
capabilities and muting functions just like any other track.
The mute function is particularly important for printing scores. Since the
triggered segment track would need to be absent from the score.
...
Now for symlinks, we can use the triggered segment tracks as places to dock the
source segments.
Now users can use the RG main canvas to copy and paste, move symlink segments
like any other segment.
...
So the to recap. The basic thought is to create another type of track accepts
segments and adds and removes them from the triggered segments list.
I'm certain I could flesh this out into a more detailed use case, if people
thought this had merit.
