That was my thought too.  Easier to handle this one in the context of some 
MIDI client that interprets a pitch bend as the value for how bright the 
lights should be, or whatever.  Just send this thing standard MIDI from 
Rosegarden (or any other sequencer), and work it that way, keeping all the 
purpose-built stuff self-contained.

It seems a lot more practical to me.  If you want to bring this kind of thing 
into Rosegarden, then you're talking about what amounts to an expensive fork.  
This is not the path of least resistance getting the job done.
