I just committed Revision 12232 to the repository.
You should be able to now type the value you like into the msec box and use the
up and down arrows to adjust 10 msec at a time.
If you don't type anything after 1.5 seconds the recalculation takes place. If
the msec box looses focus, a the times is stopped recalculation takes
immediately.
This doesn't solve the underlying granularity problem, but at least you can
enter the time you want.

I hope you don't mind me doing this. I know you said you were hoping to look
try your hand at it.
If this solution is unworkable, I'll roll it back.
