Yes. We try to preserve the old behavior in some way that the user
can control it. If changes are more extreme, then they do not become
the default. The old approach is preserved as the default and the new
approach has to be enabled in some way.
The highlight mode is switchable in the matrix editor under
view->highlight. A new highlight mode should be selectable there.
In my builds of both 21.12 and master/HEAD from the SourceForge
repository (local tree current as of yesterday) the Matrix Editor's
"View" menu just has:
View
Grid >
--------------
Toolbars >
Rulers >
My guess is that you've got an .rc file in
~/.local/share/rosegarden/rc
That will prevent the new one from being picked up. Rename any that
are in there to end in ".old" or whatever and then re-run rg. All the
correct menu items should reappear.
