I do remember encountering some sort of note-selection problem not too long ago, but I can't seem to reproduce it now. My setup seems to be working fine. The problem occurred when I opened the notation editor with only one segment selected. Selecting all segments from the edit menu before opening the notation editor made the problem go away.
