Well, I have no history with this project and I respect the wisdom of those who do and have labored long and hard with it. That being said, the idea of being tied to a spec that has been described as being both deficient and immutable is about as anti-open as you can get (without getting entirely proprietary).
I see only a few options we have here: #1 - Be blissfully content with XML-RPC as it is now and forevermore. #2 - Everyone makes their own local modifications to XML-RPC to make it work well, right, keep up with the times, etc. #3 - Prevail upon Dave Winer (and/or UserLand) to permit the evolution of the spec. #4 - Drop the trademarked "XML-RPC" name and start a new standard with a new name which encompasses the old standard and yet allows for growth and development in the open source community. Imagine if Sun never updated Java 1.0! It would have been abandoned sooner or later in favor of something else. Stuart
