As noted in (msg06105), in a number of messages I stated or implied that ILNP requires upgrades to applications. This was a mistake. ILNP works with non-upgraded IPv6 applications.
Still, since AFAIK most applications only work with IPv4, ILNP would require upgrades to most applications. I wrote (msg05966, 2010-02-04): > It is an observation that all architectures which are of the CEE type > require host changes, because they all require that all hosts and > applications adopt the "Locator / Identifier Separation" naming model. and > CEE architectures require all host stacks and applications to be > changed. which implies that all CEE architectures require upgraded applications. I now understand that GSE, GLI-Split and ILNP work with non-upgraded IPv6 applications. I also wrote: > CEE does not involve adding anything to the network. but GLI-Split involves routers rewriting packets and ILNP will have this as an option (see msg06103). RANGI requires proxies to support some kinds of communication with ordinary IPv6 hosts. - Robin _______________________________________________ rrg mailing list [email protected] http://www.irtf.org/mailman/listinfo/rrg
