I'd like to suggest either a compile-time flag or a run-time flag to 
enable debug messages when desired (off by default), as I really hate
it when you have to go re-instrument someones code (especially if
you have to do it more than once!) while debugging something else...

Anyway - I vote for the above kinda thing (not that this is a democracy
or anything, but hey, it makes me feel good ;-)
