I'm sorry I didn't reply to your post 2 weeks ago.  I saved it intending
to get back to it and didn't make it.

Someone posted a similar patch back in February and Tridge and I were both
pretty opposed to it.  See the thread beginning at

I have run into several situations where system administrators have used an
option to preserve access times at the expense of inode change times and it
has interfered with what I wanted to do or find out.   I think inode change
times are much more valuable than access times.
