they can add you (your github account) to rsyslog org then you get the updates (if you want to).

They can add people as observers only, i.e. no permissions to change anything but ability to see what's going on.

(not sure if that's the only way, for public project you might be able to sign up without rsyslog admins adding you)

It means that I can do anything that Rainer can do.

In practice, I will continue to send all my patches through Rainer, but if
there is something critical that comes up, and Rainer is not available
(sick or on vacation) I will process the patch and commit it.

Rainer takes real vacations where he disappears for a couple weeks. This
is something that I don't do well :-)
