State / UTwise no. of jails in the country. 2. Capacity of each jail to accommodate no. of jail inmates. 3. Strength of jail inmates in each jail as on 30th September 2007. 4. Total capacity to accommodate jail inmates the country on 30th September 2007. 5. Total no. of jail inmates in the country as on 30th September 2007. 6. Minimum room area prescribed by GOI for each jail inmate. 7. Maximum no. of jail inmates per room prescribed by GOI. 8. Minimum hygienic facility prescribed by GOI for each jail inmate. 9. Prescribed food items / food quantity per jail inmate by GOI. 10. Estimated no. of jail inmates during the next 10 years from 2009 to 2018. 11. Approved long range plan for the next 25 years to construct new jails / increase capacity of the existing jails. 12. Other measures already planned to improve the conditions of the jail inmates.
