RTI to PMO about Satyam Info asked & recd
Subject: Financial Irregularities at Satyam 1) The auditors PWC have already admitted their mistake in Satyam case. I would like to know what action, if any, is taken on highly qualified professionals ( Chartered accountants, MBAs) involved in this case ( please provide complete details on action taken) 2) What action, if any, is taken to ensure to ensure that there is no interference in the investigation? 3) It is shameful for the country that SEBI had to approach Supreme Court to allow them ( SEBI) to investigate Satyam officials. AP has Congress in Power. AP govt had objected ( delayed) SEBI investigation. Did the PMO take any steps to a) not allow investigation by SEBI expeditiously or b) make sure SEBI & all other investigating agencies were allowed to do their work. Please provide complete details on the initiatives taken as above. If PMO was a mute observer in the entire case please let me know so. Reply recd: Recd from Ministry of Corporate Affairs For question no 1 & 2 : The Ministry has taken up the matter with the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India ( ICAI) vide letter dated 07.01.2009 to look into the matter with regard to the financial reporting by the company , the role and the manner of discharge of the statutory functions by the auditors compliance with the Accounting standards as well as provision of the Companies Act 1956. The Ministry has also referred the matter to Serious Fraud Investigation Office ( SFIO ) to carry out the investigation under section 235 of the Companies Act. The SFIO is an independent investigation agency. Recd from PMO For question no 3 a) No b) Yes. In fact the investigation was handed over to CBI to coordinate with various Central and State Government Investigative Agencies. I am asked to pay Rs. 2 towards copying charges for getting a copy of letter written to Chief Minister Andhra Pradesh. That I will be paying shortly ( There is GR in Maharashtra , asking PIOs to disregard such small amounts & provide documents free of charge. ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Looks like AP govt & PMO is making sure SEBI is not allowed to come anywhere near Satyam!
