I had the same type problem with an Advantech PCA 6155 and 6159V Pentium 
based passive backplane system. After reading this and trying some things I 
solved my problem. Yes that is right I sent it back :-).

Has anyone found passive backplane PC boards that are compatible with 
Linux?
