I'm not aware of any problem with promisc mode. I just did a quick check
(latest svn, rt_8139too), and at least the number of IRQ events for the
NIC is increasing when I switch on promisc mode while there is "foreign"
traffic on the cable. Does this happen on your boxes as well? I have no
version with rtcap enabled at hand, otherwise I would have tested this
as well.
