During the discussion with a user about his problem that MAC address setting doesn't always work, I realised a potential reason also for the observed behaviour here: Both MAC address setting and promisc mode change are only allowed on down->up transitions of a device (RTnet philosophy: avoid hardware reconfiguration during runtime). So far RTnet accepted such changes but entered inconsistent states. I have prepared now a patch that detects and rejects illicit requests of rtifconfig, I'm just waiting for berlios to accept checkins again... Jan
