Good question. I think the problem may be that eth1 is not up. If you
are right wbout it not being up at the end of my scrip. I assume
ifconfig puts it up after assigning the IP address. That works in other
scripts I use. But I will try to use ifconfig eth1 up explicitly.

Ethercat master library. No IP address needed for this.

What do you mean by checking routes? My knowledge of ethernet is a bit
too sketchy to know what to do with this suggestion.

If it is any help, I do get a socket handle from the code. Does this
