I also use the intel Pro/1000, the realtek 8139, nationalsemi (natsemi)
conductor chip, SysKonnect, (Sys98...) and Via Rhine which all work with
rtnet. Only thing is that I cannot find a current motherboard with any
of the above chips at the moment.

What is the exact specification of the intel chips that work.

I do have the drawback that I would not want a board that is too
expensive either which makes server mainboards a less attractive choice.
