Hi Roland,

well, I used a number of Intel Gigabit chips so far and all have been supported 
by the rt_e1000 driver.
But to know it exactly, you can look at intel's website for a datasheet of the 
specific controller you
are interested in. Look for the PCI Device id (the vendor id is always 0x8086 
at Intel) and compare it
with the list that is coded in the rt_e1000 driver (file e1000_main.c,  array 
e1000_pci_tbl around line 100).
