Any chance to switch to a more recent version of Linux based on the
arch/powerpc tree? This would allow for a more generic RTnet driver. As

You should port the driver Linux uses for your ethernet interface. The
MPC 85xx has Gianfar and, if a CPM is present, also FCC ethernet
interfaces, IIRC.

These driver are for Linux 2.4 and it does make little sense to use them.
