I wondered if it was rtmac causing the issue and found the instructions in
the readme about the manual set-up and was experimenting today however the
instructions are not complete (no mention of mknod for example) and it took
me quite a bit of searching online to get anything working at all. I got my
real time driver loaded but it complained (no device found) when I tried to
add the loop back, I ran out of time to push further and was unsure if this
was really going to be a solution at the time.

As for documentation, I am used to being out of my depth and having to learn
a lot in a short time but I've found it hard to learn about how to use rtnet
from the documentation. As far as the programming side goes then I found the
link to Beej's network programming guide excellent and this made
understanding the examples fairly painless and I did manage to run
one successfully at least. I've found the docs on set up hard to follow,
what exactly I needed to put in the rtnet.conf was not clear to me. There is
quite a lot of high level stuff in the form of presentations and that's fine
too but there is a gap between the basics and the higher end that I have
found hard to fill. I'm happy to put effort in but I'm never quite sure
where to concentrate my efforts. I don't mean to criticize because I am
indebted to those that created the code in the first place regardless of
documentation.
