Thank you for your patience and your help. "Force install into shared directories" was selected when I installed the plugin..
I cannot find a "Preferences" anywhere on the menus. I wonder if I have chosen to install the wrong Netbeans IDE? The IDE I have installed is the Netbeans IDE with the Ruby pack.
