I ran

mate ~/.profile

It looked like this
export PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH"
I changed it to this
export PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH"

I opened up a new shell and ran
sudo gem update --system

Still got a segmentation fault.
