I installed Rails this way - a few minor hiccups with the Zlib
library, but otherwise installed perfectly. (Read the fix for this
submitted by stakeforce in the notes below.....)

You need to set aside a few hours to install the system, because there
may be some incompatibilities to be fixed.

As regards IDE's you may want to look at Rubymine, because Netbeans
will may have less support for Ruby in future.
