I'd say that "Returns True if mwm is running" means that it returns
true if mvm is running. I guess that was a leap of faith on my part.

Ok, I'll agree that this is a possible interpretation.

I want borderless operation in WMs that support it, and a terminal
that is still functional in WMs that don't. Instead I have a terminal
that is both borderless and useless, or has borders, in the three WMs
I use on a daily basis.

It CAN be done. Simply removing the check for _MOTIF_WM_INFO would
make it work the way the old man page says. Borderless in WMs that
support it.

I can understand your reluctance. I'm all for following the standards,
and fixing the broken packages instead of making workarounds. Is there
any chance you would consider adding a separate option that works the
way I'm suggesting? Judging by my google searches on this, it would
make a lot of users happy. Something like attemptBorderLess?

Thank you for your time.

Cheers,
 Ole Christian Tvedt

PS: This is probably my last post, so let me just say thank you to
everyone for all the hard work that has gone in to urxvt. It is
without a doubt the best terminal out there.
