Hi John. Try this old trick. Make a template of the area you will be working on. If you are going to be doing more than one shell, use brass. Otherwise, plastic will work. On the plastic, make dots where the grab iron mounting holes will be. You can make sure they are square, aligned, etc. At each dot, drill a clearance hole for the drill bit you are going to use for drilling the mounting hole. Hold the template against the shell, and drill the mounting holes using the holes in the template. Should come out square and aligned. Kalmbach used to have a book out called "750 tips for Model Railroaders", or something like that. It might be a little old now, but many of the tips still work. Barry.
