On my last layout I used an AF 350 watt transformer (actually two 175 watt
transformers in one enclosure) to power several DCC boosters. The only
thing about this set of transformers is that they have a loud hum.

I'm still using a 25-year old Troller handheld throttle and a not-
quite-as-old Rix handheld on a common rail system using 50-Watt AF
transformers as power supplies. According to what I think I learned
about Basic Electricity many moons ago, I should be getting about 3-
Amps from the 15V constant voltage posts. Anybody care to comment?

Also, in the useful techniques department, since my layout is still
under construction and many things are temporarily temporary, I use
a test light on the variable voltage post @1/2 voltage of one
transformer as a "power on" indicator.

I read somewhere that these old toy train transformers are one of
the best power supplies available for handheld throttles and the
like. I know they do a great job for me, and I have more 50-Watters
warming up in the bull pen for additional throttles
