Although it is possible to get colors so far off that they just do not look
right at all, quite often--more often than not--Ed is rigiht. The color
discussion surfaces from time to time on the CGW yahoo group. There being no
CGW equipment around to inspect, some astute person in our group pointed out
Gene Green's book on CGW equipment. Man alive, the "maroon" cabooses were
different tones of Maroon.

It must have depeneded on the supplier and the batch and then over time the
weathering. The plot thickens when the group gets to the CGW delivery diesel
paint scheme: What about that maroon--touch of brown in it possibly-what about
that red--SP scarlet or a bright caboose red. All anyone can do now is take a
color photo, hope it was processed properly, and try to match the paint.

The one awful rendition of colors I have seen was the Athearn NP passenger
colors before the widely known two-tone Loewy green. The earlier paint scheme
was beautiful, but Athearn definitely had no clue. Of course, I do not know
enough about most roads to tell, but I have seen enough samples of GN, NP, CGW,
M&StL, SOO LINE, CB&Q, and MILW to pick up on horrid inaccuracies.

Otherwise, sit back and have a soda.

Tom
