Having rail that is at least .125" high is only one consideration. You
must also move your guardrails and frog wing rails. They must be spaced far
enough away from your running rails to clear the overly-thick Lionel
flanges. . . . . . . . Once you do this, your scale wheelsets will not
operate reliably through your turnouts unless you use closed-frog turnouts
because the wider guard rail spacing will allow scale wheel flanges to snag
on the frog points.

Up until recently I would have said the same thing. But a Mr Tom Stoltz has
come up with some turnouts that seem to work for both scale and high-rail.
I didn't believe it either until I actually saw one at a club meeting and
tried running both scale and tinplate trucks thru them. I'm not sure how,
but they work.

We have already had some positive reviews of these turnouts, one on this
list I think. Has anyone had unsatisfactory experiences? Or are the people
who say they don't work just guessing and not actually trying them? I
believe it was at Altoona that Tom S had them on display for everyone to see
and try.
