Wally Collins answered your question that it was John Bortz who use to make
the couplers of which you were inquiring. The current situation is that I
purchased the tooling and wire used for the new uncoupling pin from John
some years ago. John was trying to sell the tooling, but there were no
takers. Therefore, I purchased it just so it would not get tossed in the
scrap, although I had no intention of going into the production of those
couplers until I probably needed some for myself. I have been able to find
many from individuals. John had an arrangement with Kadee for buying
couplers wholesale, which is something I can not do. If anyone is
interested in producing the Kadee HO #5 couplers with the longer uncoupling
pin for S, I gladly donate the tooling and wire I purchased from John Bortz.
If there are no takers, I will just hang on to the tooling in case I ever
need some of those couplers.
