One of the layouts we visited yesterday had a "chicken wire" perimeter,  
slightly raised to the outer edge,  outside the edge of the track.   Could be 
any 
width, was being done to simulate the earthen bank along the  right-of-way.  
Could at least slow the descent, maybe enough to catch the  "flying" 
locomotive.  Would have certainly helped my 312 Flyer years ago  when it 
"learned to 
fly".
