Hi David, I was hoping that the ACE trucks had spinning bearing
caps but I guess they don't. I've got some O scale ACE trucks that do
spin, Lionel and Atlas also make spinning O scale caps and I've seen
HO trucks that spin also. Im O scale they look neat but don't roll as
well as regular pointed end axels so in S scale they might not be as
good as the normal trucks for operating.
Thanks to everyone for providing input to my ACE truck question,
IF they only use two side springs I think I'll stick with SHS and AM
trucks for now, the wheelbase of my SHS trucks is about 5ft. 8 in so
they are a couple of inches too short for 100 ton but the springs are
correct with 3 showing. My american models trucks are also a little
short in wheelbase and also have 3 springs but with a different
sideframe profile they look like a little bit newer prototype to me.
If I ever find a pair of ACE trucks I might experiment with making a 3
spring insert? Regards, Dave Branum
