Re your home layout - can I suggest that you abandon the 8ft x 4ft layout -
it is about as moveable as a double bed! The only attraction of a 8x4 is to
watch the trains going round and round and round - bloody boring. Much more
fun can be had by building a shelf layout - I wouldn't go below 16inches in
width - max 30inches make it as long as possible, sit it on top of book
shelves etc, build module style baseboards max 6ft long. Join baseboards
with bolts and split hinges to ensure alignment across the baseboard joints,
have removable sections where you have doors. Make it a 'switching district'
layout - use a car card system ......and I suspect you will be able to use
larger radius if you go round the edge of the room rather than plonk
something in the middle of the room.
