Dave...It wasn't just one offending #6 switch.  All the #6 switches 
(commercially made by the same company) are the same.  And I really do 
not know if the switch was "bad" or not.  Since the loco had to come 
apart anyway for painting, it really wasn't all that much extra work.  
Easier than rebuilding my whole layout.  Glad I had a RR buddy with a 
machine shop.  Just a pain in the you-know-where (neck).  The point 
being to check your large steamers ahead of time on the #6 turnouts of 
your choice to make sure everything will work properly.  Easier to deal 
with the problems sooner rather than later.  Ask me how I know.
