Well, it is certainly possible to kitbash an SD-7 from
AM or even AF GP-7/9 shells. I'm not sure were the
early SD style trucks would come from. A simple metal
frame ro extending the AM frame ought to be relatively
simple compared to the trucks and shell changes.

I would have to check, but I think both the SD-7 and
SD-9 were imported in brass in the 1980's. They would
probably be a viable project today.

They appear to be mostly a mid-western\western engine,
except for B&O and B&LE
