Fortunately for you all I have kept my peace but the k 4 debate has sparked my
interest so I thought I would toss in my 2 cents. I agree that the K4 is for a
very narrow market what we need is the main motive power of the French Broad
and Rocky Bottom. It was a 2-2-2 Camelback run with the tender forward. Only
problem was the engineer Shorty Grimes could not see over the tender so they
took bailing wire and attached a stepladder to the top of the cab roof and duck
taped a chair to the ladder for shorty. It was a little rough in the winter
time but it worked. It would be a real attention-getter on any layout.

Subject: {S-Scale List} Plastic K-4

While I'm not one to tell our manufacturers how to come up with good
marketable products, I am somewhat amazed that we don't have a PRR
K-4. Whenever a new company enters the HO arena, they usually do it
with a K-4. It seems that the HO companies are falling all over
themselves trying to produce the "perfect" K-4. Do they know something
that we don't? A plastic R-T-R K-4 would be a smash hit in S, in my
humble opinion. Roy

Roy,
It seems to me that a PRR K-4 is too road specific. To create a larger
market for SHS, I would think a USRA Light Mike or 0-8-0 would be more
in line with the 2-8-0 design if they plan to make more steam locomotives
