I would hate to be perceived as a wise guy, but wouldn't it be 
easier to just go buy a #8 turnout and measure it?  Or, easier yet, 
use it?  Or, take the NMRA diagram down to Kinko's and enlarge it to 
exact S scale and then measure it?  What am I missing here?  Good 
luck with all the higher mathematics.......whew!!!  My head is 
spinning.....  

The local trackwork expert says the best way to scratchbuild a 
turnout is to lay in the stock rails to go wherever you want them to 
go and then fit in the frog and points afterwards.  Smooth flowing 
trackwork is the end result -- on curves and tangents alike.  He 
just follows the line on the Homosote and builds No. 12 switches on 
curves for his mainline turnouts.  Absolutely beautiful.
