Dick,

It has been a while since I purchased the Rex kit discussed below, but I
finally got around to putting it together. I'd like to thank you for your
advice and encouragement. You were right that it doesn't need any strange or
exotic glues, or any special fasteners that are not provided in the kit. It did
eat a whole lot of time in file work to clean up the casting, and especially to
get the mechanism to run smoothly so the loco would track and pull properly. I
probably generated a scale ton or so of zinc dust.

The Rex is painted (basic black) but not yet lettered, and makes a nice
complement to my SHS 2-8-0. Because I'm so pleased with the 2-8-0, I've bought
a Tsunami decoder and speaker/baffle for the Rex, and will be adding DCC
w/sound to it soon -- probably after the holidays.

Maybe Santa will bring me a digital camera and I can start to post pictures of
my fledgling efforts.

Regards....

Peter et al --

I have built several Rex locos. Never have I needed any kind of glue.
Many of the parts have pins that are a force fit into their mounting
holes (like the tanks under the running boards). Some parts must be
secured with the so-called "speed nuts" that slide over mounting pegs
from the inside the body shell. Regarding the cab, I have always chosen
not to secure the cab at all, preferring it to be removable. (Perhaps
this is because I never liked the Pennsy-style cap and wound up
replacing the cabs with different ones.)

Don't be intimidated. I built my first Rex kit (a Suburban) when I was
in junior high school. I was too young to know it was supposed to be
difficult.
